Concise, accurate and informative titles build customer trust in you as a Vendor. Creation of a title (or “Item Name” within the inventory file) should follow these generic rules and guidelines:

  • Limit titles to a maximum of 150 characters.
  • Capitalise the first letter of each word; however, this does not apply to conjunctions (and, for, or), articles (the, a, an) or prepositions with fewer than five letters (in, on, over, with and so on).
  • Use numerals (‘2’ instead of ‘two’).
  • For a product bundle, provide the value in brackets, for example (pack of 2).
  • Only provide information on the product which is for sale.
  • Do not use ALL CAPS.
  • Do not use offensive or derogatory text.
  • Do not repeat words within the title.
  • Do not use synonyms or multiple words to describe the same product.
  • Do not include keywords that are not applicable to your product.
  • Do not include any special symbols (for example !, *, £, @, ~ and so on). This also includes emojis.
  • Do not use subjective comments or seller-specific information (for example “Best Sellers”, “Best Quality”, “Sale”, “Great Gift” and so on).
  • Do not include information about extra accessories or additional products which the customer can purchase separately.
  • Do not include details about price, RRP or availability. Remember that the detail page, including the title, will be used by all Vendors.
